Nuances of Freedom

Solo show by Melynda Van Zee at Iowa State University Memorial Union Ames, IA

“Nuances of Freedom", a solo show by acrylic painter Melynda Van Zee, will be open December 14, 2018 through February 6, 2019, at the Gallery of the Iowa State University Memorial Union 2229 Lincoln Way Ames, IA 50011. The gallery is free and open to the public 8 a.m.-10 p.m., seven days per week unless reserved for meetings.

In “Nuances of Freedom” Central Iowa artist Melynda Van Zee uses spiral imagery to express the deep inner work necessary to finding equilibrium and energy to pursue a creative life. The spiral is one of the most commonly found design forms in nature and is symbolic of growth and transformation. From the galaxies to DNA to our fingertips, spirals are an efficient way for something to grow.

Melynda shares, “I’ve been consciously observing the nuances of the creative process-personal rhythms, energy flows and internal mindsets. I’ve been asking myself how do I create a life of abundant creative freedom? What structures and experiences will nourish my creativity and support my work? The lines, colors, and movement of these paintings are captured energy from this growth process. They are a reflection of the changes and experiments I’m exploring as I work to intentionally build a lifestyle of creative freedom.”
