Mel Kistner attended Maryland Institute College of Art and The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she graduated with a B.F.A in painting in 1996. She received a Master's Degree in Art Therapy from the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1999. Mel Kistner worked for 12 years as a Licensed Clinical Therapist in a variety of mental health settings, using art as a powerful tool to help others. Her work as a therapist informed her artwork as she learned more about how thought, emotion and behavior intersect in everyday life. After feeling God was drawing her back to creating art work full time, Mel left her position as a therapist several years ago to focus on painting and exhibiting her work. She has exhibited in a variety of group and solo shows. Mel feels called by God to create artwork that communicates truth, redemption and hope.
