The genesis of this painting was an abstraction of keyboard keys, which at first seemed flat and two-dimensional. However, as I continued to work on it, the composition gradually expanded into a three-dimensional space, ripe for the introduction of dancers. The resulting image evokes a theatrical stage, complete with the anticipation of an audience awaiting the emergence of performers from behind the curtain.
This work, entitled "Pas de Duke," pays tribute to two legendary dancers who first performed this piece: Judith Jamison and Mikhail Baryshnikov.
