The pattern reminds of tree rings, which act as "soothsayers of nature". Dendrochronology, the science of interpreting these rings, can actually tell a lot by the size and shape of a ring, e.g. if the tree was healthy or had illnesses, if he was in the shade of other trees or if he had perfect condition and/or nutrition to grow quickly.

In macro perspective, they are a visual representation of the tree's life and history, a concept that can be transferred to the way we leave our digital footprint in the internet today.

What would our rings tell the world? Have you been healthy or did something make you ill? Did you put yourself in the shade of others, or did you grow to your majesty?
