Description: before the introduction of the cotton gin in 1794, rice production exceeded the value of all other crops produced in the American colonies. The forced labor of enslaved Africans seeded the vast fortunes of rice planters in the coastal areas of Georgia and the Carolinas. This work addresses the historic link between the Black body and rice production.
