Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Color scheme painted in red, blue, green, and purple. Top, outer border of eyes painted green. Blue eyebrows, nose tip, and short, horizontal, lines on the forehead and cheeks. Red and pink swirly lines on the forehead. Large, purple circle on the center of forehead, outlined in blue. Smaller red dot below the purple circle. Purple, swirly lines on the chin and outer cheeks. Short, green brush stroke lines painted above and below the teeth. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outline in black.
