Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Pink, blue, and orange color scheme, with small green details on the chin and forehead. Dark blue eyebrows, nose tip, and inner outline of teeth. Top border of eyes painted in pink. Pink swirly lines on the chin, cheeks, and forehead sides. Orange lines on the sides of the jaw, inner cheeks, near the outer eyelids, and above the eyebrows. Two light blue dots on the chin. One orange dot on each cheek.
