Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Calaca mask with off-white painted base. Blue swirly line on the cheeks and the forehead with yellow painted near the inner swirls. Orange swirls on the sides of forehead and along the sides of the jaw. Pink, flower-shaped eye borders with off-white dots on each petal. Border of nostril painted purple. Outer border of teeth outlined in pink, inner border outlined in red. Dark red eyebrows. Three games on the forehead, two yellow gems, one pink gem. Silver gem on each cheek. Yellow gem on the chin.
