Part of the Ollin Yoliztli Calaca Series. Masks created over the duration of 3-4 years. While creating this collection, the artist developed and perfected his own style of painting for the calaca masks.
Ollin Yoliztli is a Phoenix based dance group that performs traditional Mexican Folklore dances. Cultural Coalition has partnered with them for decades, educating the public and keeping Mexican traditions alive within the community.
Mask base painted in off-white. Light blue, violet, and orange color scheme, with pink details outlining the outer border of teeth. Violet eyebrows and nose tip. Light blue swirls on the chin, cheeks, and above the eyes. Thick, orange border above the eyes. Orange lines on the jaw, cheeks, and between the eyebrows. Single orange dot on the chin.
