Duende II. Plaster bandage, paper clay, goat horns, shell, decorated with acrylic paints. Made for a theatrical performance of La Pastorela, a satirical Mexican Christmas play. Part of the diablito series, meaning little devil in spanish, they are worn in the play by children to accompany the devil as his helpers, creating mischief and causing the other characters trouble.
Half mask of human face with horns on top of head. Expression is questioning. Sculpted eyebrows painted reddish brown and carved with hair lines. Left eyebrow is raised with the inner edge pointing up. Mask has little brown and black moles painted and sculpted all over on forehead, cheeks and nose. Nose is sculpted to turn upwards with one big mole above left nostril. Six shell teeth of varying shapes and sizes protrude from bottom of mask.
