The Friendship Series is called Friendship since they were done during a period after 9/11 when Friendship itself took on new meaning. I searched for silk in colors reminiscent of the skin tones of friends.

I was embroidering my "text" horizontally, as English is written. But after traveling to Bhutan and Tibet in 2004, I embroidered Mandala-like compositions, running the "words" together (without spaces) as in the Tibetan way of writing their chanting. Tibetan Mandala designs also informed the work--- I'd already incorporated Cardinal Points in my work and was impressed by the importance of those aspects in traditional Tibetan prayer.
