- Oil On Canvas
- 85 x 100 cm
- Signature: Signed in the lower left corner: MS 94 Signed on the back of the canvas, on the wood, a small symbol of a diptych. On the lower right corner, as a signature, is the small sign of the diptych referring to Quinten Matsys' diptych of Erasmus and Pieter Gilles of 1517, which was a present to their mutual friend Thomas More. As a symbol of Friendship throughout the times, I used this sign during 1995 -1997 to mark the painting as belonging to the series of paintings inspired by the friendship with art-historian, theologian, philosopher, author and priest, Antoine Bodar.
The title of this painting refers to the15th century patron saint of France, honored as a defender of the French nation for her role in the siege of Orléans and her insistence on the coronation of the 'dauphin', Charles VII. Likewise, the figure on horseback on the right is acting under divine guidance to defend a nobel friend. Also this painting is a tribute to the artist's friendship with art historian and priest Antoine Bodar, and is part of the Renaissance series.
