The last in the de fleurs painting series, "From Flower to Butterfly," takes into account almost all the colors of the flowers in this series. Pollination by the butterfly carries the series into the ethers.
A beautiful, unique, creative expression bursting with color and energy, it is one of 12 paintings in her "de fleurs a un petit je-ne-sais-quoi de fascinat series," which translates to “From Flower to Something Fascinating!"
Inspiration
The innovative work of Helen Frankenthaler, who developed the soak-stain technique, inspired these paintings. After practicing this technique for six months, Rush plunged into a painting series loosely based on flowers.
Painting Process
Pink Flower is the first of 12 paintings in the de fleurs series. Rush says she "saw" a flower on the canvas before her on the floor and painted to its image. A few happy accidents happened in the studio. Something fascinating emerged from the original flower image she had imagined on the canvas. Thus, the title and subject of this series.
The Series
Each painting in the series is vertical, painted on the floor on flat canvas, and the same size for a cohesive look. She began each one by considering a color and the idea of a flower.
