I find shells fascinating and the broken ones more so. A study of shells lend themselves to smaller paintings where great detail can be captured but the size keeps it more intimate. Oyster shells in particular can be intriguing as the layers erode at different rates revealing a multiple of color and texture. Most of these paintings are based on photos I took in various beaches across New Jersey.
