"I flew all day, often in 35 knot winds in my Grandfather's 1946 Ercoupe with my father as pilot. Photographing with the cockpit open, the narrow barrier islands along the Outer Banks of North Carolina raced below. The pilgrimage to Kitty Hawk where flight began in 1903 revealed a maritime forest now buried in the dunes. Wind, waves, and currents had altered this protective sandy island in a short period of time."
