This pastel paintings was done on location, called "plein air." The property was large and has been developed into "Old Toccoa Farm" and is a golf and fishing community of nice homes and golf course. Many years ago I and a couple of artist friends were given permission to paint on the property while they were creating the infrastructure. It took many years before this property became a resort near Blue Ridge, GA.
I had kept the study for myself until just recently. I know there must be many stories associated with this old homeplace. It was facing the Toccoa River, not seen from the main road, Curtis Switch Road. I do believe I was told it has been torn down. There was one barn near it they planned to keep, but I do not know if it was. It is always sad to me when I know a large piece of land and its history is lost when the property is developed. I hope my paintings preserve a little bit of that history.
