This scene was located somewhere in North Carolina when I was visiting a friend and we went out looking for photo opportunities. The painting is an oil, and was an exercise in using some colors that I don't normally gravitate toward. I am not an orange or yellow person in painting, or even in my home or clothing choices! But there was a glow of morning color in the photograph I took.... very faint, but just enough to inspire me to create an under-painting of bright, rather bold, orange-pink, and yellow. I worked hard to keep the color harmony of those orange / pink field of grasses and the reflected colors onto the sheep. I loved letting it influence my choice of colors and sometimes letting it show through. I was intrigued by the postures of the sheep and the simplicity of the scene. It was fun and a successful outcome!
