‘MLSP Love, Duo’

Marne Lucas (she/her/they) is a multidisciplinary artist working at the intersection of art, science, and health, using conceptual overlaps: life’s energy, the body, mortality, and transformation in social practice investigations. A self-taught artist, her investigations are informed by the events and emotions of the community around her, and is inspired by the End of Life Doula and palliative care movements. An infrared thermal video pioneer, Lucas uses heat-sensitive military grade imaging technology to illuminate the magic and fragility of human life cycles in the 'Transmundane' series.

The ‘Bardo Project explores creativity as a form of spiritual care in collaborations with terminally ill artists nationwide to establish their legacy. Towards this, Lucas received training as an End of Life Doula, a role that supports the dying and their families. Marne has collaborated with artists, choreographers, dancers, musicians, activist groups, sex workers, health care and LGBTQIA non-profits, and the public at large.

Lucas has exhibited worldwide at Plaxall Gallery (NYC), The Brand Library (Los Angeles), MOAH Lancaster (California), PICA (Oregon), Fremantle Arts Centre (Perth, AU), Peltz Gallery (London), Municipal Museum of Penafiel (Portugal), Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (Spain). She presented infrared thermal video related work at “Synthetic Becoming,” Byrno, CR (2022), ‘Taboo-Transgression-Technology in Art and Science’ (2020), and ‘Transitional States: Hormones at the Crossroads of Art and Science’ (2018). Lucas has received UMEZ Arts Engagement grants administered by the LMCC (NY), RACC project grants (PDX) an Arts/Industry artist residency (Foundry, Pottery Divisions) at the Kohler Co. (Wisconsin), and the Land Art Mongolia 360• Biennial (2012) and RACC project grants (2013, 1010, 2006).
