This work focuses on the smothering anxiety that we experienced as a result of the forceful bombardment of information on the Covid epidemic. The ambiguity of the direct and indirect effect of the virus, and the result of this on our future, evoked numbing anxiety and fear for most of us.
During these times our existence is vulnerable, we yearn for a place of safety and a sense of security.
The nipple is symbolic of this in that it represents a source of life, nurturing, security and growth. In addition to this, and in stark contrast to the source of life, the nipple becomes a metaphor for our need to feed on the information blasted to us with regard to the virus and epidemic. Similar to babies who have the need to feed to release the agitation of hunger, our craving for new information (whether fake or real) creates in us this need to feed from the data-teat.
