This work, previously known as ‘Can you spell bak-teeuh-ree-uh?’, takes its starting point from microscopic slides of Neisseria meningitidis, as shown on a children’s book that bears this name, teaching youngsters about the unseen worlds that exist alongside us.
Instead of concentrating on disease, the painting, like the book, reflects on our shared connection with nature at its tiniest scales. The free-moving forms suggest the delicate balance that allows us to exist and the quiet strength that sustains us through moments of vulnerability.
At its core, the work is a meditation on our most treasured gift—life—and the fragile yet resilient threads that hold it together.
