This whimsical piece owes its spirit to the freewheeling line work that incorporates waves and curls and strokes. The lines are made with charcoal that stands in sharp contrast to the smooth, transparent layers of paint with which they share a universe.  These lines evoke, in my mind, playful pixies getting into all sorts of good natured mischief.
