It seems that most of the paintings I’ve been working on during shelter-at-home reflect some aspect of our radically changed culture and society. My subconscious seems to guide me intuitively through my paintings. In this painting, I painted random marks inside a sort of frame, then put it aside. A few weeks later, I discovered the dancer dancing in an open window, a breeze gently blowing the gauzy curtains, and finished the painting with this in mind. To me, the dancer reflects the tension between wanting to go out, but deciding to stay in – but also, the idea that we can still be joyful.
