Still life in front of a open window with a vast landscape view of Pacific Palisades leading to the Pacific Ocean. The vertical construction begins with the table, moves upward with three boxes, and a pink shell at the top of the still life. A postcard with a pietà scene ("The Pietà D'Avignon," French 15th century) is propped against the first box, at the center. The artist built many of her still lifes as vertical constructions to host the intersection of diverse cultural references suggested by the various objects. In this painting, the vertical construction on the interior table achieves hegemony over the horizontality of the grand ocean view outside the window by means of the dynamic form and color of the mounted shell.
