Still life in front of an open window of the artist's Pacific Palisades studio, three stacked boxes, two postcards, one souvenir book of the catacombs on the Via Appia in Rome, and one white vase. One postcard is of Manet's "The Fifer". The objects reappear in several paintings. The artist built many of her still lifes as vertical constructions to host the intersection of diverse cultural references suggested by the various objects. In this painting, the vertical construction on the interior table continues upward to the outdoor houses of the Palisades, seen through the window which also appear to be a vertical construction.
