This is a celebration of the fiery sunsets of this city, an ode late summer afternoon. You can feel the sun easing further down the horizon, hear the bird sounds as they squabble over twigs as bugs singing slowly in unison. The colors in the painting are melting in the heat and the birds turning to patterns as they reach the tree branches. The woman in the painting has succumbed to the heat. The large sweet olive tree in the center of the painting is as old as me.The painting is based on the backyard of the house in which I grew up in the riverbend neighborhood of New Orleans.
