Mixed media assemblage collaborated with artist @studio_karen_h
Our mission is to promote environmental awareness through the arts. River of Forgotten Sorrows is the 3rd piece in our environmental art project series.
It is a tribute to the people who live along an 85 mile long stretch of the Mississippi River between Baton Rouge and New Orleans, called “Cancer Alley”
It is called “Cancer Alley” because of the high number of people living with cancer in the area due to 150 oil refineries and petrochemical plants that have been spewing petrochemical distillates into the air and water since the early 1980’s.
People living in the area are more than 50 times a likely to get cancer than the average American.
Environmental justice for these people is needed now! Please visit labucketbrigade.org to read more about Women of Cancer Alley and to see their stories on video.
