In Between Two Worlds, I explore the fragile intersection of the natural world and the constructed environment. A lone polar bear emerges, not from icy tundra, but from a dreamlike cityscape drenched in rain—its edges dissolving into abstraction. Concrete and steel loom in the background, cloaked by a downpour that blurs the line between nature and man-made form. The city fades, as if being reclaimed or forgotten.
Amid this transformation, a monarch butterfly appears—symbol of metamorphosis and migration—guiding us from one realm to another. The butterfly leads not only the bear, but the viewer, representing a spiritual messenger and a herald of change. It invites us to witness a shift: from environmental loss to renewal, from the old world to a new, imagined one in harmony with nature’s wisdom.
Created in mixed media on 300gsm Saunders Waterford paper, this piece was developed using layered textures, bold hues, and symbolic fragments that echo both decay and hope. The contrast of cold urban elements and the warm presence of life—the bear and the butterfly—reflects the tension we face in our modern reality.
This work is a contemplation of what it means to exist between worlds: the physical and the spiritual, the human-made and the wild, the known and the becoming. It asks us to consider who leads us forward—and whether we are willing to follow
