Drawn on a windy, and wet plein air day, my paper became airborn a few times and the wild sea was churning up froth around the rocks below. I wanted to capture the raw dynamism of Slade Point Cliffs as they plunged toward the sea below. my charcoal and ink attempted to carve out the rugged escarpment in urgent, gestural marks, while I layered washes of acrylic and pastel to suggest wind, salt, and shifting light to convey the collision of land and sea. The cliffs seemed to pulse with coastal force, holding the me at the cliff’s edge, suspended between solid ground and restless water.
