What is Pour Painting?

What is Pour Painting?

Pour painting is a process where 3-6 colors of liquid acrylic paint are poured onto a canvas, wood or a surface of the artist's choice. Usually, the painting is created on a flat surface like a table or floor. The painter uses tools like cups, strainers, and filters to achieve their desired effect. Because of the color’s density, medium, and painter’s technique, many different chemical reactions can occur on the surface. The paint continues to change as it dries over a 24-48 hour period, which can present welcomed surprises or disasters. Usually, the end result is an abstract pour painting with amorphous lines, organic shapes, and wondrous color blending.
