How many symbols can you find?
Images of the coral reef emerge from the ink like those that guard the coasts of my beautiful island Puerto Rico. Hence, Taino (indigenous people of the Caribbean) language symbols peep throughout the piece.
Coral Reefs reduce the intensity of breaking waves working to protect the coastline among other natural resources.
In 2017, Hurricanes Irma and Maria directly impacted U.S. coral reefs in both Florida and Puerto Rico. Nearshore and shallow water coral reefs provide valuable protection to coastal infrastructure from storm surges and waves. However, storm-related wave energy can also damage the same reefs that provide protection.
