In this piece I use mixed media, including textile hardener, paper, aluminum foil, and other natural materials to unify them. I depict a view of thousands of Puerto Ricans, including my family, after the devastation of Hurricane Maria in September 2017 which left them to often seek dangerous sources of water. Also, I depict the dichotomy of a Puerto Rican in a distinguished “Quayabera” getting dirty on his knees while holding his Puerto Rican flag close. I use acrylic on egg carton to highlight fragments of the native “flamboyán” flower tree and found objects for the common blue jug Puerto Ricans used to collect and haul the water.
