Rachael Songey is a traditional artist and illustrator based in the Bay Area. She is a Las Positas alumni and is currently a student at Cal State East Bay, majoring in Illustration. Her
passion is rooted in character art, comics, and storytelling. She loves to explore fantastical
worlds within her creations while incorporating themes that connect to the human condition.
Jean-Baptiste Greuze Masterstudy was created during her time at Las Positas College. The intention with this painting was to choose an artist no later than the 18th century and recreate one of their pieces. The artist she chose was Jean-Baptiste Greuze and his painting Study of a Women’s Head made in 1780. In reproducing the piece, her goal was to learn from the artist by investigating how they worked and emulating their techniques. This exercise was substantial in her artist journey as she still utilizes those techniques in her work today.
Jean-Baptist Greuze Masterstudy was acquired in 2024 by the Art on Campus Task Force as part of an ongoing effort to grow the LPC art collection, with a focus on local Bay area artists and LPC student artists. Learn more at www.laspositascollege.edu/artoncampus.
