Artist: Alexandra Faulkner
Alexandra Faulkner is a multimedia artist whose work focuses on paper cranes, symbols of peace and stability in Japanese culture. A former Las Positas College student, Faulkner transferred to UC Davis where she is pursuing a degree in cinema and digital media.
In Japanese legend, if a person folds one thousand paper cranes, they will be granted a wish. For Thousand Cranes, Faulkner used origami techniques to hand make one thousand individual cranes, which she then strung into leis made specifically to hang at Las Positas College. Faulkner shares her wish for this piece:
Las Positas has meant so much to me in my time here; it changed the entire course of how my life has gone and I have changed as a person since I started attending Las Positas, for the better. This piece is a way to honor my time at this school and to show my dedication to the staff and students who attend LPC. I hope that when people walk past it, they are imbued with energy and confidence that they are on the path they are meant to be on, and that will take them to good things in their life.
