Inspired by the Japanese art of kintsugi, this painting is a reflection on the beauty that can be found in our fractures. Kintsugi is the practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, honoring the history of an object rather than hiding its damage. In the same spirit, this work is about embracing the imperfect, the wounded, and the vulnerable parts of our lives.
Rather than seeing brokenness as something to be ashamed of, I wanted to explore it as a source of strength and connection. The lines of repair are not meant to disappear, but are evidence of our life experiences.
I hope this painting invites you to consider that we are not less because we have been hurt. We are more: more human, more compassionate, more whole in our honesty. There is beauty in seeing each other as we are, and in recognizing what has been lovingly restored.
