I painted this with America heavy on my mind. These are ominous times — times when division and uncertainty feel sharper than ever. There’s no more drifting in the middle; everything feels decisive now, a line drawn, a choice that can’t be avoided. The black spaces cut through like shadows, while the brighter passages fight to radiate forward. That struggle between light and dark, promise and threat, is the heartbeat of this work.
