Individual drawing based on the dark-edged Bee-fly, Bombylius major
The long proboscis is ideal for reaching nectar from Primrose and violet flowers and the flies can be found hovering above the flowers in spring. The female bee-fly flicks her eggs near the entrance to ground nesting solitary bee nests and the larvae feed on the bee grubs.
