The third in my “7x7 Series” of seven quilts, each made using seven shirts. These are repurposed shirts from my husband (and a sliver from my son.) While it looks like ten woven-pattern black & white fabrics, it’s actually made from seven. I flipped and used some of the back of three fabrics to make even more gradation from dark to light.
Once I pieced this top, I showed my husband and we agreed it needed something - a pop of color somehow? I stuck a sliver of red onto it from one of my son’s shirts from when he was a little boy, and asked my husband what he thought. He liked it. When I asked what I should title it he suggested “Made You Look” which made me laugh. I embroidered the phrase onto to the red piece and appliquéd it to the quilt. I like that you have to get really close up to read it - similar to the idea behind Yoko Ono's "Yes" ceiling painting.
