This portrait of my Mom was done shortly before she died at age 92. It captures exactly the way she looked, the trust and innocence she retained, but also the darker decline of her mind. The skewed way her face is placed on the horizontal canvas and the whiteness surrounding her reflects the ultimate dislocation of death. The colors of pink, pale yellow and mint green are her colors. None of this was planned consciously on my part. After three sessions of work, none of which pleased me, suddenly, the painting flowed out of me in a rush. I love this piece.
