Sandakan Death Marches

-Marches in the island of Borneo from Sandakan to Ranau, Malaysia which is around 160 miles
-Only 6 Australian soldiers survived
-All killed by Japanese soldiers
-2345 allied pow’s were held captive by the empire of japan during wwII
-Captured at the battle of Singapore
-There were 3 separate marches
-estimated 16% of the population of northern borneo were killed during the 3 year Japanese occupation
