Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been known to make political statements with her fashion choices. Made with keychain hoop earrings and suffragette white, her swinging necklace, red lipstick and swift brushstrokes can be heard loud and clear. She knows she has not gotten to the steps of Congress by herself, and that she is opening doors for women and people of color to come in after her.
After a record number of women were sworn into Congress that year, female lawmakers marked the occasion by wearing white en masse.
