This work is part of the Tally Series where I used a repeated line to cover the surface of the canvas, building textural layers of paint. By imposing a strict limit to the mark making I was forced to explore how this would effect the over all composition of the piece. The edge-to-edge repetition creates an almost woven, textile quality. The considered use of red paint is counterbalanced by cooler blues and greens, with the dominant colour shifting depending on the viewer's focus. The elastic quality of the surface introduces a cadence, where each mark, though not random, contributes to an elastic rhythm that guides the eye across the canvas.
