I saw a photo online of a Navajo Code Talker. He was an elderly man in a bright yellow shirt and it gave rise to deep contemplation: of the life he had lived, of the decisions he made. And I also reflected on the beautiful yellow shirt he wore and his beautific smile. I decided to do a portrait although my work is more on the abstract side of portraiture. I did some studies and this one on Arches oil paper is inspired by the work of Leonard Baskin. This piece looks a little richer in the light. The tone of yellow was hard to pin down but I am close.
