"Approach to Beauty" is a quadriptych: a woman with two dresses and a robin. It is the first creation of the LiShinault rearrangeable "Dressing Room" series.
Making up this piece are custom shaped wood panels that can be taken on or off of the main figure who powerfully returns our gaze while wearing her gold leaf slip. She awaits to be adorned with any of her three 'outfits', first being "Robin Cape", which allows her to transform into a birdlike goddess. Next is "Blue Dress", created to resemble a dress my mother made for herself as a young lady. The final dress is "Unsalted Butter" similar in pattern to "Blue Dress" but made up of monotone collaged words and images including a recipe containing the words, unsalted butter, hence the name of the dress. All panels look great by themselves as well as on the main figure panel.
