Like many of my canvases, Sparks evolved through intuition, experimentation, and balance. On this day, I was drawn to my blue mark-making tool and its brightness, especially when mixed with paint on the canvas. As usual, the shapes that emerged were completely intuitive. They survived the process because they were meant to and because they matched my feeling of creativity that day.
I named this piece Sparks because it reminds me of the excitement when what you are doing feels just right, the spark of energy that occurs and propels you forward for more. Sometimes, I need to remind myself of that feeling, and when I do, it inspires me to keep going or to try again.
