As I created this piece I found it difficult to imagine living during the Dust Bowl. The poverty, the fear of taking a breath, the slow agonizing as plants died and food became scarce. The vision of dust rising on the slightest breeze and the wall of the dust storms marching across the landscape. When would they decide to give up all hope and leave? Did they wait for the last brown leaves to fall from the trees?
