Blue can be both calming and electric, sometimes, all at once. That’s the magic I chase every time I reach for my lineup of blue pastels—especially when I’m painting something as quietly resilient as a plumbago blossom. With “Whispers of Blue,” I layered an assortment of pastel sticks, coaxing out the softest sky blues and the deepest indigos. Each layer became a conversation with the paper, a little negotiation between my vision and what the painting wanted to become. The more I layered, the more the light shimmered from within. This is an example of a painting that left me in its wake wiping blue dust off my hands as it assumed a life of its own, bigger than I'd originally imagined for it.
The mess, the magic, the way a handful of colored dust can become a living memory of a summer morning amazes me, and I'm an artist. I hope this painting brings a little of that wonder into your world—blue dust and all.
Have you ever noticed how a single color can change the whole mood of a room—or a day?
What I love about this small painting is how it invites you to pause. The blues aren’t loud or brash—they’re soft and subtle, like a friend’s quiet encouragement or the memory of rain on thirsty ground. It’s a painting that brings a sense of calm and possibility, the kind of art that makes a room feel like it’s breathing right along with you. If you’re looking for a way to bring nature's tranquility indoors—or just need a daily reminder that beauty often speaks in whispers—this one’s for you.
Hang it where you need a moment of peace, and let the blues do the talking.
