Spring in the high country of Far West Texas can be dry, windy and harsh. Bold and delicate, stalks of yucca blossoms break the Davis Mountains' skyline as if protecting all within until gentler weather comes to the high desert ranchland again. I always catch my breath when I encounter a stand of these hardy Chihuahuan Desert flowers waving above golden grass against a blue southwestern sky.
This painting is as much about the sky and waving grass as the stalks of white, lily-like flowers.
