Javelina are fierce, yet comical critters that roam the high desert of Far West Texas and Big Bend country in herds like deer. Their beady little eyes are weak, so they use their keen sense of smell to identify whoever comes near. This one paused, lifted his hoofed leg and wrinkled his pink nose at me before moving on down the adobe-colored mountainside.
