Late afternoon storm near Cibolo Creek Ranch outside Marfa, Texas
One of the joys of painting the high desert of Far West Texas is that the unpolluted skies cast remarkably irregular and unexpected shadows across the mountains. No two days ever look the same. On this afternoon, mountain ranchland turned mystical under the cloud-embedded turquoise sky near Cibolo Creek Ranch.
Cloud-to-ground lightning flashed ( I love adding bolts of lightning to a stormy-skied painting!) and the mountains gleamed as if they had lights inside them. This is a tiny but complex cloudscape in rich color from the mountains near Marfa and Fort Davis. (Who says the desert is drab!?!)
