Minotaure Embrassant une Femme / Minotaur Embracing a Female
Drypoint on copper, Block 283.
Montval laid paper with “Picasso” watermark.
Illustrated in “PICASSO THE PRINTMAKER”. Dallas Museum of Art, 1983.
There is one proof in the Dallas Museum of Art and one in the Musee Picasso, Paris. This was the signature piece in a gallery in San Francisco in 1985 of a showing of works given by Picasso to his grand daughter Marina Picasso.
This piece was never published for the public. Originally printed in August 1934, Block 283. 57 proofs were pulled in 1942 and no edition was ever published. One print is in Musee Picasso in Paris, France. This particular copy was sold in 1985 by the Erika Meyerovich Gallery and I purchased it from that owner in New Orleans in1986.
